    • Onsen is so great, nice dinner and breakfast, the room view is so stunning
    • Big room ,clean, I like snack& soft-drink,Onsen the best
    • Great location for autumn foliage in late October. The hotel is right beside the ropeway gondola that goes up to the top of the mountain with beautiful views. There was an English speaking staff. It was very helpful. The free shuttle bus from the train station was a nice benefit. The rooms and on baths had beautiful views of mountain scenery and a stream.

    Cons -

    • Dinner plan I don't like beef & sasemi
    • The hotel itself is great and comfortable, but there was almost nowhere to eat in Zao Onsen in mid October. Almost all the shops in town were closed for the season, including most of the restaurants. The restaurants that were recommended were closed on Wednesday when we were there. We did not want the large meal served by the hotel restaurant, so ended up eating chunk food from the convenience stores for our meals. I would advise signing up for the meal plan with the hotel, despite its cost, if you are an off-season to the snow season. That would provide you a comfortable place to eat with what I’m sure is good food.
    • The location requires a car, which may be less convenient for some travelers.

Although we booked a large suite, it was much bigger and more spacious than expected, especially for a Japanese ryokan. The outdoor onsen was a great and unique experience. The location is not within walking distance of major tourist attractions, but that’s probably to be expected since the ryokan mainly hosts Japanese guests who come to relax.

The location requires a car, which may be less convenient for some travelers.

Size of the room, beautiful, wonderful amenities, amazing staff, addition of footbath!

    Everything was great!

Nice private and public onsen. Great location. Good rooms and facilities. Helpful staff.

Breakfast buffet quality and selections was poor. Hotel has the opportunity to serve good meals as most restaurants in the area have very limited hours or days when they are open.

The hotel, staff, and onsen were all amazing. The hotel is located right next to the ski slope, and the breakfast had a massive variety.Onsen were clean and well maintained. Overall, it's an amazing hotel we will be back.

spring is really nice and close to ski lane

none, but the restaurant inside requires reservations. have to be careful, otherwise you will have no food in that area

The beautiful onsens and excellent service staff. We want to thank Tinnu San ( from Bangladesh) at the reception of Kokusai hotel for his excellent service and English, and for bringing us dinner to the room when we could not find food in Zao Onsen town. Thank you so much!

That it did not have a restaurant that served dinner a la carte.

It's near cable car station and it provides hotel pick up at Yamagata station which is convenient for those who don't drive.

Very good breakfast. Nice hot spring and public bath. Very good location for Ski.

Pricy dinner since there’s more better options restaurants near by in town.

I will book again, nice view. Clean and good service

    10ElmoPosted on: 12-22-2024

Wonderful staff who helped and answered to queries to their best despite the language barrier. The dinner was prepared with much creativity. The breakfast was filled with variety of Japanese dishes, breads and freshly fried sunny side-up with bacon.

The location is just next to the zao ropeway, dinner and breakfast was excellent

    9AiyapholPosted on: 12-9-2024

Nice western influence on the property. Keeping the Japanese charm with some good comforts - if you don’t like tatami beds this is exactly what you need. Natural onsen which is quite good. Easy access to the ropeway for some lovely views, pick up from the bus terminal.

Breakfast, although quite good quality, had a few confusing items which they should replace. It also was not changed for the two days that I was there.

Everything was amazing - clean, modern, comfortable. Laundry room! Amazing meals

    10YewPosted on: 11-26-2024

Excellent breakfast and dinner - good spread and top quality food. Great location near Zaō Ropeway

    8scottPosted on: 11-22-2024

Modern, clean hotel with large nice rooms. Great bathrooms and toilet area. Easily the largest room I’ve ever had in Japan.

It’s a bit sterile. The meals were meh. They are know for their Yamagata beef and I had that grilled one night and as sukiyaki another. Beef was excellent, but most of the side dishes were not interesting.

    10PuiPosted on: 11-20-2024

Great onsen hotel. The room was nicely refurbished. Private osen can be rented at a very reasonable price. The public osen was beautiful. Meals were absolutely delicious. Exceptional service. Staff were very friendly and professional.

    9LisaPosted on: 11-18-2024

It was a beautiful hotel with both private and public onsen. My husband loved the outdoor onsen and went there twice in one day! We picked a Japanese style tatami room which was very spacious and comfortable.

The location was up on a hill and was a slight walk (about 10 min) to the "main" street of the town. We, unfortunately, were there during a national holiday and all of the restaurants in town were closed for dinner.
